Studio Designer takes great joy in sponsoring High Point Market‘s Style Spotters program that enlists a new group of acclaimed design professionals every year to find the best of Spring and Fall markets. This year’s 2022 Style Spotters has expanded to include 10 sensational talents— Kelly Collier-Clark, Kelly Finley, Jacob Laws, Jennifer Mabley, Rachel Mautner, Kurt Jacob Miller, Monika Nessbach, Lucy Penfield, Jana Platina Phipps, and DuVäl Reynolds.

Each Style Spotter was tasked to explore and discover the best of the best among the countless product offerings at the Spring 2022 High Point Market, a vast landscape that totals almost 12 million square feet. Watch this video that features each Style Spotter, who all describe the top style and color trends that captured their attention during market.

The fruits of their labors can be seen in the Summer 2020 edition of Style Stories, a thoughtfully researched and profound deep dive into the best of High Point Market’s trends and products. Style Spotter mentors Shay Geyer and Gary Inman praised the team in their introduction that they “could not be prouder” of them for “dazzling us all with their curation of the Spring High Point Market.”

In this post, Studio Designer found much to love in each of the Style Spotters’ Style Stories, beautifully presented and illustrated in this eye-catching and informative document that you can download here. You can also check out their At-Market Gallery, for each Style Spotter’s curation of products they loved at Spring Market, including direct links to each product. Here are our favorite discoveries from each of the ten 2022 Style Spotters.

Kelly Collier-Clark of Plot Twist Design looks for brands that are globally-inspired, sustainable, and most importantly vibrant and engaging; Ngala Trading had plenty to offer. Kelly admires how the brand promotes Indigenous African Design and its mixture of styles. She noticed the mixture of African and European styles of Ngala’s made-to-order Malta Chair.

Kelly Finley of Joy Street Design delighted in the superb offerings of American heritage brand Wildwood Home, especially their Select Collection, which allows designers to specify custom pieces for projects. Of this collection, Kelly favors the Octagon table for its beauty and versatility.

Jacob Laws of Jacob Laws Interior Design believes good design comes from “a sense of familiarity and sanctuary” and selected pieces that would add to this feeling. Looking for pieces “where ‘now’ meets ‘then'”, he selected this beautiful Fonda Desk by Julian Chichester that harkens back to the 1960s with its mod curves. It is made out of oiled African Walnut with a Black Vellum top panel and brass details.

Jennifer Mabley of Mabley Handler Interior Design runs her firm with her husband Austin and they are always seeking unique pieces to “make a room sing.” They found a phenomenal standout piece in the Osbert Lamp by  Arteriors, a striking lighting element in metal and marble with LED lights that cast an intriguing downward glow. It is modeled after the T-squared used by the Arteriors design team.

Rachel Mautner of Rachel Mautner ID found the airy and inviting Taracea Showroom to be a must-visit for her market experience. She is a self-proclaimed “sucker for cantilever” so she was drawn to the Limbo Large Table by Taracea. She loves the contrast of the two different types of woods beautifully joined together that she declares is an “excellent conversational, focal piece for any room.”

Kurt Jacob Miller of Jacob Lukas Design loves to find items at High Point Market that can be used in many different environments and found the astonishing Drape Chandelier by Global Views to be his top pick on that front. He noted that the designer was inspired by a clothesline is made of folded, hand blown glass rods with special LED lights. He loves that the chandelier has a unique character that glows with a “soft, organic sway.”

Monika Nessbach of designbar opted to seek out the future of design and ironically found herself looking at items that were “raw and porous” than futuristic. She found great beauty in the imperfect nature of her market finds in stone and wood. She selected as her “perfect wabi-sabi accent” the gorgeous stone Mountain Summit bookends by Studio A Home and especially admires the mountain-like raw edge of the top contrasting with the smooth stone of the polished bottom.

Lucy Penfield of Lucy Interior Design was also a fan of the beautiful craftsmanship of the products at Ngala Trading who seek to bring African products to North America. She loves this “Delicious Monster” pendant by artist Xavier Clarisse in Durban, S.A. who was inspired by the Philodendron Monstera plants found throughout southern Africa. Each lamp is hand-made “from quality, locally sourced, vegetable tanned leather.”

Jana Platina Phipps of Trim Queen, also known as Home Couture Collective, used her mastery home décor embellishments to find special pieces with trimming and fringes that add that special extra touch to a hand-made piece. She found this utterly delightful Star of India Ottoman as part of the Pearson® Upholstery Collection of Hickory Chair. This piece can be customized to any client’s delight as the company’s tailors miter each fabric for a star-burst effect on the top. along with contrasting welt, braided welt cord and hand-tied bullion fringe.

DuVäl Reynolds of DuVäl Design, LLC—who is also a Studio Designer client—found himself drawn to the great lighting he saw at Spring Market, especially the layered designs he found in more modern lamps. The stunning Greyson Chandelier by Eichholtz is a sparkling work of art fitting to be a focal point of so many possible luxury environments. DuVäl especially loves the strips of handmade glass in varied colors and lengths for giving off a “luxurious vintage vibe.”
